How it works?
Heat produced by the laser beam passes through the skin and destroys the hair follicle. However other structures within the skin like, nerves or blood vessels are not harmed. The intensity of heat produced enables the destruction of several hair follicles at the same time.
Melanin and its importance:
It is a known fact that laser rays are ineffective for the removal of gray hair. This is because the black pigment or melanin is absent in hair that is gray or white. The presence of melanin enables the hair to absorb the laser rays extremely well. Since nerves, blood vessels and other structures within the skin do not possess melanin, no harm is caused to them.
Method of hair removal:
The laser probe is placed on the surface of the skin. The rays that are passed are then absorbed by the melanin present in the papilla of the hair. Thus, the hair follicles present in this region are destroyed due to the severe heat generated in the area by the laser beam.
